This post is a step by step guide to build and master tiny habits to transform your life.

1. Do a life audit

Does your car have a GPS? Makes life very easy, doesn’t it?

But if you’re anything like me, once you’re on familiar ground, you ignore the directions and the machine goes crazy as it tries to recalculate a new route to your destination.

Well, you’ve come to a point in your life where you want to chart a new course for your life.

You have to start with a life audit just as you would do a financial audit before a major investment like buying a new house.

According to this post, a life audit is:

a personal reflection exercise that helps you check-in on yourself, your progress with your goals, and your general satisfaction with life.

Let me tell you, I’ve been down this road. Two years ago, I was forced to do a life audit. A medical crisis forced me to quit my full-time job as an English teacher.

It was a bleak time as I needed to step out of my comfort zone and carve a new life for myself. That life audit gave me the courage to change my life around and start this blog.

Here are a few books to inspire you to start new habits to help you to take the steps to change your life.



Here’s what you need to do:

• Select the 5 or 6 most important areas of your life like relationships, health, work and spirituality.

• Break each category up into subsections like so: relationships – partner, kids, extended family, friends

• Rate each area from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest score and 1 being the lowest.

Some categories to include maybe spirituality, work, health, leisure and travel.

This is an intense exercise and you need to be quite ruthless about what’s working and what’s not.

The result will be a blueprint for you to map out steps to change your life to the one you truly want to live.

2. How to set goals to change your life

Now, if you’re serious about taking steps to change your life, your real hard work starts with setting goals.

If you want to succeed, you have to become more intentional about your goals. Once you have a clear plan and you’re willing to adjust your priorities to make that plan happen, you’ll increase your chances of success.

If you’re anything like me, just the thought of change must be tying you up in knots.

But, this helpful YouTube video gives you everything you need to set realistic achievable goals.



Do not rush the goal-setting process. It is the key to transforming your life.

Get hold of a planner like this Erin Condren one (my personal favourite) and use it to write all your goals down. It’s a life planner so it’s well suited to the change your life journey that you are on.




Here’s what you need to do:

• List your goals for the different aspects of your life

• Figure out why these goals are important to you

• Break each goal into small action steps

• Allocate a time frame to each step

• Take daily action towards meeting the goal

So if you want to lose 5 kgs with healthy eating, for example, your notes may be – eat only lean proteins like fish and chicken and meals to include a salad and steamed veggies.

3. Create a Vision board

Vision boards are based on the principle of visualization,  a powerful mind exercise often used by Olympic athletes to realize their goals.

• Know your ‘why’ for creating this vision board

• Gather your supplies and equipment

• Use images, quotes, illustrations, poems and other decorative elements to depict each goal.

When you are done with your vision board, place it in a prominent place.

Each time you pass it, spend a few minutes studying it and conjuring up the feelings associated with each goal.

4.Overcome Procrastination

Ever put off doing something for later or the next day and regretted it?

Do you intend to do them? Yes, but when?  Soon or tomorrow or after the long weekend?

Fear that you will not lose X no of kilos and you will be stuck with the same self-consciousness about your body that you had before.

Fear of success – that it will be momentary. How will you keep it up? How will your life change? Will you be able to cope with the changes?

• Revisit your goals

• Break them down further to can do sections

• Apply the 15-minute rule to working on each part of a goal

• Reward yourself after the 15 minutes

• Get an accountability partner

Let’s look at an example of how this impacts your life. You may be very shy, so you avoid the stress of meeting new people. So, you stay away from parties, traveling or even changing to a better-paid job.

Can you see how fear of dealing with your shyness traps you into a role of spectator rather than participant in life.

Your comfort zone restricts you to a life of sameness, routine and monotony. Might as well be a pot plant.

For instance, I started this blog being totally clueless about the tech behind blogging.

But, I am 100% richer for it – I have new and improved tech skills, made amazing virtual friends and found my writing mojo.
