Recharge before the morning rush with a quiet cup of teaDo you desperately need to recharge your life?

Do you feel like you are a nearly dead battery in need of an urgent reboot?

Are you suffocated by the mindless chores to manage your family and your home on top of a full-time job?

Slow strangulation day after dreary day.

The unchanging monotony of work, laundry, cooking, cleaning colors your life black. So you snap at the dog, sulk with your partner and storm at your surly teen.

Your tormentors – laundry basket, vacuum cleaner, stove, and dishwasher- taunt you daily.

I know just the thing to put the zing back into your life – you need a time out from your mom life.

A girlfriends’ weekend away – a rescue plan to recharge your life. To revive and refresh you.

I know what you’re thinking. That too much rests on you to leave your family for even a day. That they will be at a total loss without you. That you simply have to shut up and put up with it.

Here’s the thing – you need the time to rest, relax and unwind so that you can take care of your family happily not grudgingly.

This post gives you a winning formula to plan a cracking girlfriends weekend away.

If you’re not good at organizing, don’t worry. I got your back.

Ready? Let’s get started.

You have to plan this get away from it all weekend like a general going to war.  Plan ahead to counteract your mom guilt.
–    Stock your fridge with meals and snacks
–    Call on your parents, parents in law, friends, and neighbors for help
–    Endow your partner with the gift of keeping the kids fed, full and happy

Plan for an upbeat day of fun and laughter. You want to step out of your comfort zone and up the thrill factor.

Things to discuss:
–   the date and destination
–   the exciting itinerary for the weekend
–   the budget
–   allocation of tasks

Get in the car, rev the engine, lower the hood, turn up the volume on this track and go driving with your girlfriends.

The simple act of singing this upbeat tune together instantly sets a light, jolly, playful tone to the day.

You cast off your gloom and focus on the intoxicating freedom of just putting yourself first.

Your girlfriends are in the same boat as you – dead tired of the circus of work, cooking, and cleaning.

A time out of your life allows the fun-loving person, buried under layers of responsibility to come out to play.

Deborah Tannen, Ph.D., professor of linguistics at Georgetown University and author of You Just Don’t Understand: Women and Men in Conversation,

Women share a confidential kind of talk when they are uninterrupted
and free from daily responsibilities.

This is why a girlfriends weekend away works so well. You leave home so tired you want to sleep forever but return supercharged.

The best part of being with your BFFs is sharing everything that plagues you in your life.  Often the holes in your life strategy are plugged. You get ideas to reset your priorities and schedules so you can fit in some Me – Time daily.

So, the issues that brought you close to burn out are shown the door for good.

Sounds good so far, doesn’t it?

You’ve zoomed along the coast with your besties enjoying the tracks that brand your friendship.

Time for breakfast at a great cafe overlooking the sea.

What more could a busy mom ask for – a champagne breakfast with your most favorite girls?  Savor the bliss of a leisurely meal free of interruption.

There’s something about the ocean that makes it a balm to a weary soul. Just wallow in the salty air and allow your cares to drift away.

The camaraderie and companionship of dear friends on this recharge weekend is the perfect antidote to the Supermom role you’ve just left behind.

Good friends give you just what you need to get back to your bouncy self:
–  100% support
–  no judgment
–  acceptance
–  help in times of need
–  shared interests
–  joy in spending time together

They prove to be closer than family. So just spending time together is enough to revitalize you.

You’ve taken your kids to the museum, haven’t you? To see the dinosaurs or whatever.

When was the last time you went to an art gallery and let the beauty of art wash over you?

So, on this recharge weekend break with your girl squad, you can do that.

Playwright and novelist Dean Francis Alfar says:

One of the best ways to recharge is by simply being in the presence of art.    No thoughts, no critiques. Just full-on absorption mode.

In perfect synch with your buddies, you can exclaim in awe at the works on display.

The visit to the art gallery:

  •   –  Takes your mind off your problems
  •   –  Induces a kind of meditation
  •   –  Invites introspection and reflection
  •   –  Arouses compassion and empathy

The best part is the intense discussion later. You argue and debate and tear the whole experience to pieces to evaluate the benefit.

The payoff could be a mindset shift – to find beauty in the daily grind of life.

Recharge your life by having fun shoppng with your girlfriends

Shopping with your best friends is like the crusty caramelized sugar on crème brûlée.

Crunchy at first followed by melt in the mouth goodness. Exhausting but power packed with pleasure. It’s like a treasure hunt – you try on several outfits to find that one piece that makes you ecstatic.

A day at the mall is an all in one reward:

  •   –  chatting about trendy items and colors
  •   –  encouragement to try a new style or color
  •   –  laughter at an ill-fitting garment
  •   –  gossip about who wears what and how they carry it off or not

A girlfriends shopping trip is called retail therapy for a reason. It does just that. It is a bonding experience, mood booster and de-stressor all rolled into one.

The highlight of the girls weekend away is a day at a spa. It is an escape from reality – from the tedium of managing the lives of your family and the summons of social media.

The options to work on your stress levels are:
–  hydro and heat therapy
–  beauty treatments
–  massages

The massages are the best to knead your stress away. They release a feel-good hormone called serotonin, resulting in a total mental and physical uptick.

This is an unbeatable experience. Made special by sharing it with lifelong good friends.

Love this post! Although my daughters are fully grown, I still find myself needing to take time out. Especially after a trying day. Thanks for all the great suggestions. I wish I lived by a coastline to drive along!

I’ve taken one solo “time out” and it was awesome, just what I needed. I do try to travel with my mom and sisters every couple of years and we always have a great time and it’s wonderful to be able to re-charge! Great post!

Great ideas and you are so right, we all need to recharge! For me, I like to take a walk on the beach or go to a local or state park and take photos, so relaxing and therapeutic. I am also a crafter, so sometimes just “escaping” to my craft room to create does wonders! I am going to pin this post so I can look back to it as a reminder when needed. Thanks for sharing!

I think retail and spa therapy are my go to’s, they seem to cure whatever ails me. This is a very positive post so glad to see women supporting women.

I’m so one of those girls that feels so great after hanging out with my girlfriends. I feel like a new mom as I walk in the door… Until I’m confronted with the tornado of kids toys, screaming, lack of listening. Lol. I need a girl date soon. Thanks for this reminder. ❤️❤️
